About Rio MENG


Film director, Writer, Artist.

He was born and raised in Xuzhou, Jiangsu, China.

From a young age, he devoted himself to painting and calligraphy.

He graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts(CAFA)

and then pursued further studies in film directing at the Beijing Film Academy(BFA). 

His short film “Power Off” (2024) has been selected for several international film festivals, including the

40th Warsaw International Film Festival – ( Poland – World Premiere )

41st Tehran International Short Film Festival. (OSCAR® qualified) – (Iran)

37th Foyle Film Festival (OSCAR® qualified) – (UK)
42nd Busan International Short Film Festival – (South Korea)

He won the NETPAC Award at the 2025 Busan International Short Film Festival.

He is particularly interested in exploring complex human emotions and societal issues through visually compelling narratives.

He currently lives in Beijing, working as a film director and screenwriter, and working on his first feature film.
